PERSONAL & RELIABLE SERVICE

Providing High Quality Over-Night Services Since 2001

MELBOURNE  - OVERNIGHT

If you need reliable, on demand, door-to-door, overnight freight to or from Melbourne, you might be surprised to know this is our flagship service.  It's where we started over 20 years ago and in that time we have managed to create something quite unique for the country town and city destinations we cover.

Reliable ad-hoc overnight freight to and from Melbourne can be challenging.  Most is serviced by the national and multinational carriers.  However, the importance of your freight can become lost in the system with the bigger organisations.  There are just too many layers of staff between you and your freight and so much freight that yours becomes just a drop in the ocean.

We are smaller but have a well-established network of 200+ vehicles to call upon across Melbourne.  Big enough to have the network and resources to get the job done well, yet small enough to care.

In Melbourne, we specialise in ad-hoc deliveries and pickups and late pickups - even up to 5pm or later, can be achieved overnight to our country destinations.

If you need it overnight, we can do it.

And if you need it sooner, we have our ASAP service which is a dedicated vehicle to the task.

ALBURY

Nestled on the edge of the Great Dividing Range, with views of the snow fields in winter, Albury-Wodonga is a major center for the region.  Nearby, the Hume Dam captures rainfall from the mountains and is used to regulate the flow of the mighty Murray River along the Victorian-NSW border through to South Australia.  Albury was the first run we purchased and we are proud to provide both overnight services to the beautiful twin cities of Albury-Wodonga and same day from there to Shepparton.

Departing Shepparton Depot 5:00 am

Arriving Wodonga Depot 7:15 am

BENDIGO

In 2009 we purchase our second run, servicing the city of Bendigo.  Built during the gold rush, on top of one of the richest gold fields in the world, Bendigo is still thriving and is Victoria's forth largest city.  We are proud to provide both overnight services to the historic city of Bendigo and same day from there to Shepparton.

Departing Shepparton Depot 5:00 am

Arriving Bendigo Depot 7:30 am

Deliveries and Pick-ups completed

by 2 vehicles across Bendigo

ECHUCA

In the days when freight was moved by paddle steamer and barge on the Murray River, Echuca became the largest inland port in Australia.  It is a wonderful tourist destination to experience fine dinning, history, fishing, camping and water sports on the Murray.

Departing Shepparton Depot 7:30 am

Arriving Echuca 10:00 am (approx)

Deliveries and Pick-ups servicing Tatura, Kyabram, Tongala, Echuca, Moama, Rochester, Girgarre and Stanhope.

BENALLA

We call this our Benalla Run but it is a bit more than that.  The run ends in the "Rose City" of Benalla but starts in Shepparton, winding its way to the rural cities and townships of Numurkah, Strathmerton, Cobram, Yarrawonga, Corowa, Rutherglen and Wangaratta. These areas are strong in agricultural production and manufacturing.

SHEPPARTON

Shepparton is our hub.

It is located at the centre of the Goulburn Valley irrigation system and has strong agriculture and manufacturing industries.

Our depot is located at 26 Telford Drive.

All bookings are managed at this location with phone lines open from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday on  (03)  5831  7166.

Online bookings are available for account customers and their regular senders.

For booking inquiries we can also be contacted via email at: bookings@bicknells.net.au

Two vehicles are based in Shepparton, completing deliveries and pick-ups for our outer runs and local Shepparton to Shepparton services.

FREIGHT TYPES

Most often, freight is handled many times before it reaches its final destination.
Please make sure that you have packaged your goods well enough to protect them during their travel.

  • Items that fall into this category include: cartons, parcels, satchels, 20lt drums, short lengths

  • Maximum length up to 2 metres

  • Weight up to 25kg or .10 of a cubic metre (a cubic metre is rated equivalent to 250kg)

  • Cubic Calculation Examples:

          Carton 25kg @ 50cm x 50cm x 40cm     =  .10m³  =  1 x Carton Rate
          Carton 25kg @ 2m x 20cm x 20cm          =  .08m³ =  1 x Carton Rate

PALLET

  • A Standard Pallet footprint is 1.2m x 1.2m

  • Height up to 1.8m

  • Freight must not overhang pallet

  • Double staking of pallets is unacceptable

  • Weight up to 1000kg

  • Over 1000kg will be charged at Double Pallet Rate

  • Freight dimensions should be quoted as Length x Width x Height

  • Dimensions should be given in metric measurement

  • All three dimensions are required

CUBIC CONVERSION

  • A cubic conversion of 250 kg/m³ applies

HAND UNLOAD

  • If a forklift is not available and the driver is required (where possible) to hand un-load a pallet or skid, an additional charge applies.

FUTILE ATTEMPTED PICK-UP / DELIVERY

  • This charge can occur when a driver has arrived as instructed for a pick-up, but the freight is not ready to go.

  • Or we have been given a bad address.

WAIT TIME

  • Time is critical with all our runs with timetables to be kept on connecting runs.

  • Drivers usually cannot wait any more than 3 mins without jeopardising all pick-ups / deliveries on that run.

  • A penalty charge will be applied.

RE-DELIVERY / RETURN TO SENDER

  • Re-delivery charge can occur if no one is home when the driver arrives and it is not safe to leave the freight un-attended.

HISTORY

ED%252520-%252520Bicknells_edited_edited_edited_edited.jpg

Lyndon and Ros Bicknell formed Bicknell's Freight in October 2001 and the business has grown from humble beginnings to one of Victoria’s leading, privately owned, light freight companies. The focus has always remained to provide a personal and reliable service.

As a teenager, Lyndon worked with his parents in the family business, formerly known as Bicknell’s Freight Service. His parents created a high standard for customer service and this standard remains a tradition to be continued by the business today.

Ros has a background in computing, working for almost 15 years with the systems department at the Campbell’s Soups plant located at Lemnos near Shepparton.

During its 20 years of operation, the business has expanded due to purchasing runs as well as increasing activity in existing runs.  We are not too big and not too small. This is key to our reliability. It is the advantage of small business; where close knit and dedicated teams such as ours, produce better service than larger counterparts.

When things go wrong, as they sometimes do with freight, we take it personally.  This means we take ownership of any problems.  We let you know early and do everything we possible can to rectify the problem.

We do not compete on price; we compete on quality of service.  Our Customers want reliability and use us because they know that we will manage their freight every step of the way.

Personal Note From Ros Bicknell:

On 12th August 2017, Lyndon passed away suddenly.  It was gut wrenching for me, our sons Taylor and James, family, friends including staff, and all who knew him well. Lyndon was a hard working, fun and generous man who is missed every day.

Thanks to the enormous support of our wonderful and dedicated staff, I have been able to continue to run the business.  I wanted to continue our good work.   And I thank everyone involved in helping me do this, including our loyal customers.

The business is doing well and this is because of Lyndon and his hard work and dedication to always doing a great job ......

and having fun doing it!

Sincerely,

Ros Bicknell

  13. Where by operation of law the Carrier becomes responsible for damage or loss of goods, no claim for such loss or damage will be allowed unless lodged in writing at the office of the Carrier within seventy two (72) hours after delivery was given.
